Introduction:
Social media has become an integral part of our daily lives, and it has also brought about numerous benefits. However, the use of social media has also been associated with various negative effects, such as depression, anxiety, and social isolation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of social media on mental health among Chinese students.
Methods:
We conducted a survey among 1,000 Chinese students aged 15-18 years old. The survey included questions about their use of social media, their mental health status, and their attitudes towards social media. We also measured the levels of social support, self-esteem, and stress levels using self-report measures.
Results:
Our results showed that the use of social media was associated with higher levels of stress and lower levels of social support. Social media was also associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety. The students who used social media more frequently were more likely to have higher levels of stress, lower levels of social support, and higher levels of depression and anxiety.
Discussion:
These findings suggest that social media use can have negative effects on mental health, particularly among young people. It is important for students to be mindful of their social media use and to seek help if they experience any negative effects.
